José da Fonseca

José da Fonseca Lopes is known as the founder of the Associação Brasileira dos Caminhoneiros (ABCAM), or the Brazilian Association of Truck Drivers. Established by Fonseca Lopes in 1983, the organization was designed to represent the interests of freelance and independent truck drivers throughout Brazil, eventually growing to represent approximately 500,000 members.

Under the foundation laid by Fonseca Lopes, the association became a significant advocacy group. It played a pivotal role in organizing the 2018 Brazil truck drivers' strike, issuing a critical ultimatum in early May that ultimately resulted in nationwide disruptions starting on May 20, 2018.
