Charles Henry Fowler was a Canadian-American educator and religious leader active during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in 1837, Fowler transitioned into academic administration, serving as the fourth president of Northwestern University from 1872 to 1876.\n\nIn addition to his work in higher education, Fowler was a prominent figure in the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was elected as a bishop of the church in 1884, a position he held during his later career until his death in 1908.
