Jacques Heath Futrelle was an American journalist and mystery writer. Born in 1875, he developed a career writing short detective fiction and working in journalism. He is most famous for creating the character of Professor Augustus S. F. X. Van Dusen, who was widely known as "The Thinking Machine" due to his rigorous application of logic to solve mysteries.\n\nFutrelle's contributions to the mystery genre were cut short when he passed away in 1912. He was among those who died during the historic sinking of the RMS Titanic. Despite his brief life, his logical detective stories left an enduring mark on early detective fiction.
