Gordon Randall Phillip David Garrett was an American science fiction and fantasy author who became a active voice in the genre during the mid-twentieth century. He was a frequent contributor to Astounding and various other science fiction magazines throughout the 1950s and 1960s, helping to shape the landscape of speculative fiction during this era.
Beyond his own solo writing, Garrett was highly influential as a mentor and collaborator. He famously instructed fellow author Robert Silverberg in the techniques of writing and selling large quantities of action-adventure science fiction. The two writers also collaborated directly, co-authoring two novels that explored the themes of Earthmen disrupting a peaceful, agrarian civilization on an alien planet.
