Lewis Edward Lawes (September 13, 1883 – April 23, 1947) was an American prison administrator who distinguished himself as a prominent proponent of prison reform. His career was defined by his twenty-one-year tenure as the warden of Sing Sing Correctional Facility. During this extensive period of leadership, Lawes was responsible for the oversight of the facility, which included supervising the executions of 303 prisoners. Despite the duties of his office, Lawes utilized his position to advocate for systemic changes to the penal system, emphasizing rehabilitation and reform.
