Florence Small Gaynor (1920–1993) was an American nurse and healthcare administrator. She achieved a historic milestone in the medical field by becoming the first Black woman to head a major teaching hospital in the United States.
Throughout her career, Gaynor worked within nursing and hospital administration. Her leadership of a major teaching institution broke significant racial and gender barriers in American healthcare administration.
