William Ernest Powell Giles, best known as Ernest Giles, was an Australian explorer active during the nineteenth century. He is distinguished for leading five major expeditions into the uncharted and arid regions of South Australia and Western Australia.
Through these journeys, Giles contributed to the geographical exploration of the Australian continent, mapping and documenting the remote interior. His expeditions remain a significant part of the history of Australian exploration.
