George Robert Gleig (1796–1888) was a Scottish soldier, priest, and military writer whose life and career spanned nearly the entirety of the nineteenth century. Combining his experiences in the military with his later religious calling, Gleig established himself as a distinct voice in military literature. Though primarily remembered for his dual service as a clergyman and a soldier, Gleig's writings drew directly from his background, offering readers a unique perspective on the military events of his era.
