Edwin Lawrence Godkin (1831–1902) was a prominent American journalist whose career left a lasting mark on late nineteenth-century media. He is best remembered for his foundational role in establishing influential publications that shaped contemporary public discourse.
In his career, Godkin founded the prominent weekly journal The Nation. He also went on to serve as the editor-in-chief of the New York Evening Post, leading the publication from 1883 until 1899. Through these editorial roles, Godkin maintained a significant presence in American journalism up until his retirement and subsequent passing in 1902.
