Samuel Griswold Goodrich was an American author and politician who achieved widespread recognition under his well-known pen name, Peter Parley. Active in both literary and public spheres during the nineteenth century, Goodrich made significant contributions to children's literature and publishing.

Among his most notable literary achievements was the establishment of Merry's Museum, a popular children's magazine. In addition to his career as a writer and publisher, Goodrich was active in politics, serving as a Massachusetts State Senator in 1837.
