Anna-Greta Leijon (1939–2024) was a prominent Swedish Social Democratic politician who held several high-profile ministerial and administrative roles throughout her career. She began her professional journey at the Swedish Labour Market Administration in 1964, eventually rising to become its director in 1970. Her political career advanced significantly when she served as a minister without portfolio from 1973 to 1976, and she was elected as a member of the Riksdag, serving from 1974 to 1990. During her time in government, Leijon held key cabinet positions, including Minister for Employment from 1982 to 1987, Minister for Gender Equality in 1986, and Minister for Justice from 1987 to 1988. Her tenure as justice minister, which she undertook without holding a law degree, concluded abruptly following the Ebbe Carlsson affair. Beyond her domestic political career, she achieved international recognition, notably chairing the General Conference of the International Labour Organization in 1984. Following her political career, Leijon continued to serve the public in various leadership capacities. In 1992, she became the director general of the National Institute of Occupational Health. She also took on prominent cultural and media roles, serving as the chairperson of Sveriges Television (SVT) and the museum of modern art, Moderna Museet.
