Homer Philip Groening was a Canadian-American filmmaker, advertiser, writer, and cartoonist. Born in December 1919, Groening developed a multi-faceted career in the creative arts and became particularly recognized for his work producing and directing many different types of short films. In addition to his professional achievements in advertising and writing, Groening is widely notable for his connection to modern animation history. As the father of cartoonist Matt Groening, his name served as the direct inspiration for the iconic character Homer Simpson. Groening passed away in March 1996, leaving behind a diverse legacy of creative work.
