Francis Hindes Groome was an English writer and scholar who became the foremost commentator of his era on the Romani people. Born in 1851, he was the son of Robert Hindes Groome, the Archdeacon of Suffolk.

Throughout his career, Groome dedicated his writing to exploring and documenting Romani life. His work focused extensively on their language, history, customs, beliefs, and lore, providing a comprehensive look into their culture during the Victorian era before his death in 1902.
