John Brown Hamilton (1847–1898) was an American physician and soldier who dedicated his career to public health and military medicine during the late nineteenth century. He achieved his most notable professional distinction when he was appointed as the second Surgeon General of the United States.
Serving in this prominent national role from 1879 to 1891, Hamilton oversaw critical medical and administrative duties for the country. His tenure of over a decade marked a significant period of leadership in American medical history prior to his death in late 1898.
