William T. Hamilton

William Thomas Hamilton (1820–1888) was an American politician who served his home state of Maryland in several high-ranking legislative and executive offices during the nineteenth century. A member of the Democratic Party, Hamilton's career in public service spanned multiple decades and included representation at both the state and federal levels.
Hamilton represented Maryland in the United States House of Representatives, serving the state's second congressional district from 1849 to 1853, and the fourth congressional district from 1853 to 1855. He later served in the United States Senate from 1868 to 1874. Hamilton capped his political career by serving as the 38th Governor of Maryland, holding the office from 1880 to 1884.
