Garrison Kent Hall (1917–1973) was an American accountant and publisher who founded G. K. Hall & Co. in Boston during the late 1950s. Initially operating as a specialized publisher, the firm focused on producing printed and microform catalogs of prestigious library collections, including the New York Public Library. This unique service provided invaluable resources to researchers and academic institutions during the mid-twentieth century.\n\nIn the 1960s, the company's trajectory shifted upward due to innovative marketing strategies implemented by Betty Jensen Hall. These efforts significantly boosted profits and enabled G. K. Hall & Co. to expand its offerings into comprehensive library reference works spanning the humanities, sciences, fine arts, and music.\n\nThe firm was acquired by ITT in 1969, and by 1971, it had established itself as a major pioneer in the publishing industry by producing large-print editions of bestselling fiction and non-fiction. This move dramatically increased accessibility for visually impaired readers. Although Hall passed away in 1973, the company continued to grow through strategic acquisitions, including Gregg Press, Twayne Publishers, Sandak, and Thorndike Press, cementing his legacy in American reference and accessible publishing.
