James Hamish Scott Henderson (1919–2002) was a multi-faceted Scottish intellectual, poet, songwriter, communist, and soldier. He is widely recognized as a pivotal figure and catalyst for the mid-twentieth-century folk music revival in Scotland, dedicating much of his life to preserving and celebrating traditional Scottish culture.

In addition to his own creative output as a poet and songwriter, Henderson was an accomplished collector of folk songs. Through his fieldwork, he discovered and brought national attention to several notable traditional performers, including Jeannie Robertson, Flora MacNeil, and Calum Johnston, thereby securing their legacies and enriching the Scottish folk tradition.
