Glen Clay Higgins is an American politician and reserve law enforcement officer who serves as the U.S. representative for Louisiana's 3rd congressional district. Born on August 24, 1961, Higgins represents a southwestern Louisiana district that encompasses territory previously represented by former governor Edwin Edwards and former U.S. senator John Breaux, including the cities of Lafayette, Lake Charles, and New Iberia. He first secured his seat in Congress after winning a runoff election on December 10, 2016, in which he defeated fellow Republican Scott Angelle.
Alongside his career as an elected official, Higgins continues to hold a law enforcement commission in a reserve capacity with the Louisiana attorney general's office. Within Congress, he is a member of the House Freedom Caucus. His political alignments and public engagements have drawn significant attention; he has appeared and spoken at events organized by groups such as the Three Percenters and the Oath Keepers, and he has claimed to be a "Three Percenter" during speaking engagements.
Higgins's legislative record and political stances have frequently positioned him as a distinct and controversial figure in American politics, with critics arguing that his views are far-right. Notably, he was the sole member of Congress to vote against the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
