Gordon Cochrane Home (1878–1969) was an English landscape artist, writer, and illustrator who made significant contributions to early 20th-century travel and historical literature. Born in London, Home began his career in publishing, working as an art editor for prominent periodicals such as The Tatler and The King, and later collaborating with the publishing house A & C Black.
During the First World War, Home served as a Major in the Royal Army Service Corps from 1914 to 1920, stationed in France and North Africa. This period of military service fostered a lifelong passion for travel. He subsequently journeyed extensively throughout North Africa, the British Empire, and the Commonwealth, experiences that heavily influenced his artistic and literary output.
Working primarily in watercolour as well as pen and ink, Home was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy and participated in the inaugural exhibition of the Society of Graphic Art in 1921. He combined his artistic talents with his writing, authoring and illustrating numerous travel guides and historical volumes for major publishers like J.M. Dent and A & C Black, capturing the landscapes and heritage of the regions he visited.
