Charles Hornig was an influential early contributor to the science fiction genre, establishing himself as a key figure during the field's foundational years. Born in 1916, Hornig began his involvement in science fiction as a teenager, demonstrating a precocious talent for curation and publishing. In 1933, he created one of the very first science fiction fanzines, helping to pioneer the amateur fan-publishing culture that would become a cornerstone of the genre's community.
Hornig's work quickly elevated him to the professional ranks of the industry. From November 1933 to April 1936, he served as the managing editor for the prominent magazine Wonder Stories. Appointed to this significant role while still in his teens, Hornig's editorial tenure marked him as one of the youngest editors in the history of professional science fiction publishing, leaving a lasting mark on the genre's early history.
