James Newton Haxton Hume Cook CMG was an Australian politician active during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in 1866, his political career spanned both state and federal levels during a formative period in Australian political history.

He initially served in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1894 until 1900. Following the federation of Australia, he transitioned to federal politics, serving as a member of the House of Representatives from 1901 to 1910. Aligned with anti-socialist political factions, he also served as a minister without portfolio in the administration of Prime Minister Alfred Deakin. He passed away in 1942.
