Joseph Benjamin Hutto was an American blues musician who became a distinctive voice in the genre. Heavily influenced by the work of Elmore James, Hutto developed a performance style defined by his expressive slide guitar playing and a powerful, declamatory method of singing.
Over the course of his career, Hutto built a reputation for his passionate delivery and instrumental skill. His contributions to the blues tradition were officially recognized posthumously when he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1985, two years after his death.
