Prentiss Ingraham was an American fiction writer and military officer whose life was defined by adventure and conflict. Born in late 1843, he served as a colonel in the Confederate Army. Following his Civil War service, Ingraham spent the decade of the 1860s working as a mercenary in various conflicts. These experiences as a soldier and adventurer later informed his career as a fiction writer. He spent his remaining years writing before passing away in August of 1904.
