Thomas Stinson Jarvis was a Canadian-American lawyer and writer who transitioned from a legal career in Canada to a literary life in the United States during the late nineteenth century. Born in Toronto in 1854, Jarvis initially trained for the bar and practiced law within the province of Ontario. However, his creative ambitions eventually led him to abandon his legal practice in favor of pursuing a full-time writing career.

To advance his literary aspirations, Jarvis relocated to the United States, living first in New York City before eventually moving to California. Throughout his writing career, he contributed regularly to the popular press of his era and published several novels alongside other literary works. Although his very first publication was well received by readers and critics, his subsequent writings failed to achieve similar acclaim, marking a career of mixed literary fortunes. He died in California in 1926.
