Elias Henry Jones (1883–1942) was a Welsh administrator, military officer, and author. Serving as an administrator in India and later as an officer in the Indian Army, Jones's life took a dramatic turn during the First World War when he was captured and held at the Yozgat prisoner of war camp in Turkey.
While imprisoned, Jones collaborated with Australian officer C. W. Hill to orchestrate a highly unusual and daring escape. The duo famously used a homemade Ouija board to deceive their Ottoman captors, feigning madness and spiritual possession to secure their transfer and ultimate escape.
Jones documented this extraordinary wartime exploit in his acclaimed 1919 book, The Road to En-dor. The memoir remains a classic of escape literature, celebrated for its detailed account of psychological deception and survival under duress.
