Donald Keith was the collaborative pseudonym used by the father-and-son writing team of Donald Monroe (1888–1972) and Keith Monroe (1915–2003). The pen name was created by amalgamating their first names to ensure both received credit for their collaborative efforts. The partnership began with Keith Monroe's early writing attempts, which his father, Donald, helped him revise and develop. While the early works under the moniker were joint efforts, Keith Monroe eventually wrote several of the later stories in their signature series on his own.
The duo is most famous for their contributions to the Time Machine series, which originally appeared in the pages of Boys' Life magazine over a span of three decades, from 1959 to 1989. These popular youth-oriented science fiction stories captured the imaginations of young readers. Two book-length compilations of these stories were later published: Mutiny in the Time Machine in 1963 and Time Machine to the Rescue in 1967.
Beyond their signature series, works under the Donald Keith pseudonym were also published in prominent speculative fiction and adventure magazines of the era. Their stories appeared in publications such as Galaxy Science Fiction and Blue Book, contributing to the mid-twentieth-century landscape of magazine fiction.
