George Kennan was an American explorer who became well-known for his travels during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His expeditions primarily took him to the Russian Empire, where he explored and documented the remote regions of Kamchatka and the Caucasus.
In addition to his travel exploits, Kennan is remembered for his familial connection to the twentieth-century American diplomat and historian George F. Kennan, who was his cousin twice removed and with whom he shared a birthday.
