David Ker (1758–1805) was an Irish-born American educator, Presbyterian minister, lawyer, and judge. Born in February 1758, Ker immigrated to America, where he engaged in a diverse professional career that bridged the fields of religion, law, and higher education during the early years of the United States.\n\nKer is most notable for his pioneering academic leadership as the first presiding professor of the University of North Carolina. In this capacity, which corresponds to the role of a modern university president, he helped establish the early foundations of the institution. Beyond his academic contributions, Ker also served the public as a minister, lawyer, and judge before his death in January 1805.
