Lallu Lal (1763–1835) was an Indian academic, author, and translator who played a foundational role in the development of modern Indian prose. Professionally, he served as an instructor in the Hindustani language at Fort William College, located in Hastings, Calcutta, where he educated students and contributed to the academic study of the language.
He is most notable for his work Prem Sagar, which is recognized as the first work written in modern literary Hindi. Through his teaching and writing, Lallu Lal helped shape the literary landscape of northern India during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
