Elinor Macartney Lane was an American novelist who achieved widespread popularity during the first decade of the twentieth century. Her literary career began with the publication of a number of short stories, which allowed her to develop her narrative voice before she transitioned to writing full-length book publications.
Throughout her writing career, Lane published three major novels that defined her literary legacy. She made her novelistic debut in 1901 with the publication of Mills of God. This was followed in 1904 by Nancy Stair, which became one of her most recognized works. Her third and final novel, Katrine, was published in 1909, the same year she passed away on March 15. Through these key works, Lane established herself as a successful and well-regarded figure in early twentieth-century American fiction.
