Jennette Barbour Perry Lee (1860–1951) was an American novelist, short story writer, and academic whose literary career spanned the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in Connecticut, she began her career in education at a young age, teaching at a local school during her teenage years. She went on to pursue higher education, graduating from Smith College in 1886. Shortly after completing her degree, she began teaching English at the collegiate level, embarking on a dedicated career in higher education.\n\nAlongside her academic responsibilities, Lee developed a prolific writing practice. Over the course of her career, she authored numerous novels and short stories. Her literary output was deeply influenced by her regional roots, with much of her fiction focusing on the daily lives, distinct characters, and cultural landscapes of New England. Through her realistic depictions of local life, she captured the spirit of her contemporary American environment.\n\nLee successfully balanced her dual roles as an educator and a creative writer throughout her life. Her academic background informed her literary pursuits, and her stories contributed to the rich tradition of regional writing in America. She remained active in her academic and literary endeavors until her death in 1951.
