Mary Lerner was an American writer active during the early twentieth century, specializing in short fiction. Born in 1882, she pursued a brief but notable career in literary and popular periodicals during a dynamic period for American magazine publishing. Between 1914 and 1919, Lerner successfully published at least fourteen short stories. Her work was featured in several of the country's most prominent national magazines of the era, including McCall's, Collier's, and Harper's Bazaar. These publications were central to the distribution of contemporary fiction, allowing her to reach a broad American reading public during the years surrounding the First World War. Although her active publishing career was relatively short-lived, her placement in these major national titles reflects her capability as a commercial fiction writer of her time. She passed away in 1938.
