Sidney Kilner Levett-Yeats (c. 1858–1916), who published under the name S. Levett-Yeats, was an English novelist and civil servant. Born into an established English trading family with deep-rooted historical connections to British India, he initially pursued a military career, serving as a soldier in the Indian Army. He later transitioned to civilian administration, joining the Indian Civil Service as a low-level bureaucrat, which allowed him to experience colonial life firsthand.
Drawing inspiration from the literary success of contemporary Anglo-Indian writers such as Rudyard Kipling, Levett-Yeats began writing fiction. He authored a series of popular Victorian potboilers, many of which were set in Europe rather than India. These fast-paced adventure novels resonated with the reading public of his era, earning him a consistent presence on contemporary bestseller lists and establishing him as a successful popular novelist of the late Victorian period.
