Eric Lisle James was an Australian sportsman who represented Tasmania in first-class cricket during the early twentieth century. Born in Low Head, Tasmania, in October 1881, James's competitive cricket career at the regional and state levels was brief, with his recorded appearances concentrated entirely within the 1903–04 season.\n\nDuring this season, James participated in the local rivalry between the northern and southern regions of Tasmania. In December 1903, he lined up for the "North" team in a "North v South" fixture at the NTCA Ground in Launceston. He later appeared in the return match of the series, which took place in April 1904 at the TCA Ground in Hobart.\n\nThe pinnacle of James's cricket career occurred in January 1904, when he was selected to play for the Tasmanian state team in a first-class match against the touring Marylebone Cricket Club from England. In the match, held in Launceston, James scored four runs in his sole batting innings before being bowled by English cricketer George Hirst. He also bowled during the match but did not take any wickets. Following his brief sporting career, James eventually relocated to Victoria, where he passed away in the Melbourne suburb of Malvern in August 1948.
