William Lithgow (c. 1582 – c. 1645) was a Scottish traveller, writer, and poet active during the early seventeenth century. Known for his extensive travels, he was also alleged to have operated as a spy during his journeys.\n\nOver the course of his various peregrinations, Lithgow accumulated significant distances, ultimately claiming to have travelled 36,000 miles (58,000 kilometres) entirely on foot. His writings and poetry drew from these extraordinary pedestrian adventures.
