Alfred Basil Lubbock (1876–1944) was a British historian, sailor, and soldier who dedicated his writing career to documenting the final generation of commercial sailing vessels. Active during the transition away from wind-powered merchant fleets, Lubbock captured the history of the Age of Sail through his prolific written works, drawing on his background as both a sailor and a soldier to record maritime history.

Lubbock was also deeply involved in the preservation of seafaring heritage. In 1911, he became an early member of the Society for Nautical Research, later serving on its council from 1921 to 1924. Through his active participation in the society and his contributions to its journal, The Mariner's Mirror, Lubbock helped foster a deeper scholarly appreciation for historical sailing ships and maritime traditions.
