C. C. MacApp was the primary pseudonym of Carroll Mather Capps, an American science fiction author who wrote during the mid-twentieth century. Born on November 27, 1917, Capps established a presence in the speculative fiction community under his MacApp pen name, while also occasionally publishing works under the alternative pseudonym Carroll J. Clem. His writing career was characterized by contributions to the science fiction genre, reflecting the imaginative themes of his era.
In addition to his literary career, Capps was a highly prominent figure in the West Coast chess community. He was a long-time benefactor of San Francisco chess, dedicating significant time and resources to supporting the game locally. His leadership roles included serving as the president of the San Francisco Bay Area Chess League, where he helped guide the regional organization.
Capps was also an exceptionally skilled competitor on the chessboard. Over his lifetime, he secured the Northern California chess championship and the San Francisco chess championship multiple times, demonstrating his strategic expertise. He continued his involvement in both writing and chess until his death on January 15, 1971.
