Sir Edward Montague Compton Mackenzie was a distinguished Scottish author, biographer, historian, and memoirist whose career spanned much of the twentieth century. Beyond his literary achievements, Mackenzie was a lifelong Scottish nationalist who played a foundational role in the country's political landscape. In 1928, he co-founded the National Party of Scotland alongside Hugh MacDiarmid, Cunninghame Graham, and John MacCormick. His dedication to his country and his extensive contributions to literature were officially honored in 1952, when he received a knighthood.
