Sir William Magnay, 2nd Baronet, was an English aristocrat and prolific novelist who was active during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in 1855, he was the son of Sir William Magnay, the 1st Baronet, who had notably served as the Lord Mayor of London. The younger Magnay succeeded to his father's baronetcy in 1871 at a relatively young age. He later established his own family, marrying in 1879 and fathering a son, Christopher Magnay, in 1884.

Magnay's literary career was marked by a high level of productivity. He became a well-known figure in the popular fiction market of his day, successfully publishing twenty-five novels during his lifetime. His writing career spanned several decades, capturing the transition between the late Victorian era and the early twentieth century.

Following his death on January 8, 1917, Magnay's literary legacy persisted with the publication of three additional novels, which were brought out posthumously to complete his bibliography of twenty-eight works. Upon his death, his title was passed on to his son, Christopher. Magnay's extensive output remains a testament to the era's robust appetite for serialized and novel-length fiction.
