Sir Henry William Martin, 1st Baronet, was a British Royal Navy officer of the eighteenth century. Born at Shroton House in Dorset on August 29, 1733, he was the son of Samuel Martin, a plantation owner of Antigua, and Sarah Wyke, who was the widow of Montserrat plantation owner William Irish. Following the death of his brother George in 1748, Henry became the eldest surviving son of his parents' marriage.\n\nMartin pursued a career in the Royal Navy, eventually rising to high administrative office. His final and most notable appointment was as the Comptroller of the Navy, a significant post he held from 1790 until his death on August 1, 1794.
