Ghislaine Noelle Marion Maxwell, born in France on December 25, 1961, is a British former socialite who became a prominent figure in international social circles. Raised in Oxford, England, she attended Balliol College, Oxford, during the 1980s, establishing herself as a well-known member of London's social scene. She holds British, French, and naturalized American citizenship. Early in her career, she worked closely for her father, the prominent media proprietor Robert Maxwell, until his sudden death in 1991.
Following her father's death, Maxwell relocated to New York City, where she continued her life as a high-profile socialite and developed a close, long-term relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Together, Maxwell and Epstein maintained an extensive social network that connected them with prominent global elites, politicians, and celebrities, including figures such as Prince Andrew, Bill Clinton, Naomi Campbell, and Kerry Kennedy.
In July 2020, Maxwell was arrested by the FBI in the United States following a federal indictment charging her with multiple offenses, including conspiracy to entice minors and the sex trafficking of minors to Epstein. After being denied bail, her trial took place in late 2021, resulting in her conviction on five out of six counts, including sex trafficking of a minor. In 2022, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
