Elizabeth Thomasina Meade Smith, writing under the pseudonym L. T. Meade, was a prolific Irish writer and editor. Born in County Cork, Ireland, she began her writing career during her teenage years and went on to produce a significant body of work.

Meade is particularly remembered for her stories written for girls. Through her career as both a writer and an editor, she became a prominent voice in children's literature, active from the late nineteenth century until her death in 1914.
