Mathias Peter Møller, commonly known as M.P. Möller or Moeller, was a Danish-American pipe organ builder who established one of the most prolific organ manufacturing companies in history. Born on the Danish island of Bornholm, Møller decided to emigrate to the United States in 1872. Just three years later, in 1875, he founded his very first workshop in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, beginning his career as an independent organ builder.
In 1881, civic leaders from Hagerstown, Maryland, convinced Møller to relocate his business to their city to help drive its industrial growth. This move proved highly successful, as the M.P. Möller Pipe Organ Company eventually grew to become one of the largest pipe-organ manufacturers in the world. Under his foundational influence, the company produced more than 12,000 instruments over its lifespan before finally ceasing operations in 1992.
