Maryanne Miller is a distinguished retired United States Air Force general and pilot whose military career spanned nearly four decades. Born in the late 1950s, Miller achieved historic milestones within the United States military, most notably becoming the first Air Force Reserve officer to achieve the rank of four-star general. Additionally, she distinguished herself as the first woman to serve as the Chief of Air Force Reserve, breaking significant barriers for both female service members and reserve officers in the American armed forces.
Throughout her career, Miller held several of the military's most critical leadership and command positions. From July 2016 to September 2018, she served as the Chief of Air Force Reserve and the commander of Air Force Reserve Command. Following this successful tenure, she assumed command of the Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base, serving from September 7, 2018, to August 20, 2020. In this final assignment, she oversaw global air mobility operations, directing forces responsible for airlift, aerial refueling, and aeromedical evacuation. Miller officially retired from the Air Force on October 1, 2020, concluding over 39 years of distinguished service.
