Lewis Sprague Mills Sr. was an American educator, writer, photographer, and local politician who made enduring contributions to the civic and educational life of Northwestern Connecticut. Born in 1874, Mills spent his career serving his community through various public roles, establishing himself as a key figure in the region's development and a dedicated chronicler of Connecticut history.
His extensive work in the field of education was highly regarded by his contemporaries. In recognition of his lifelong dedication and service to local schools, a regional high school built in Burlington, Connecticut, in November 1960 was named Lewis S. Mills High School in his honor. In addition to his educational leadership and political involvement, Mills pursued writing and photography, leaving behind a legacy tied closely to the history of his home state. He passed away in 1965.
