Julie Goodyear is an English retired actress who achieved widespread recognition for her portrayal of the character Bet Lynch in the long-running ITV soap opera Coronation Street. Born in 1942, Goodyear first appeared in the role for a brief nine-episode run in 1966. She later rejoined the cast as a series regular, maintaining a continuous and prominent presence on the show from 1970 until 1995.
Following her departure from the regular cast, Goodyear reprised her famous role for brief stints in the early 2000s. She returned to Coronation Street for eight episodes in 2002, followed by a final appearance of seven episodes in 2003. Her decades-long association with the program established her as one of the key figures in the history of the British soap opera.
Goodyear's performance and contribution to television have been honored with major accolades. In 1995, she was presented with the Special Recognition Award at the National Television Awards. Her career achievements were further recognized in the 1996 New Year Honours, where she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
