John Trotwood Moore (1858–1929) was an American journalist, novelist, poet, and local historian whose life and work were deeply rooted in the American South. In 1883, he founded the Moore Academy in Pine Apple, Alabama, before embarking on a prolific writing career. He later relocated to Tennessee, where he served as the State Librarian and Archivist from 1919 until his death in 1929.

Over his career, Moore produced a large body of literature, including numerous poems, short stories, and novels. His writings and public views were characterized by his stance as an apologist for the Old South, and he was a documented proponent of lynching. His tenure as Tennessee's State Librarian marked a significant period of local historical preservation and archival administration.
