James Mudge (1844–1918) was an American clergyman and author associated with the Methodist Episcopal Church. Born in the mid-nineteenth century, Mudge pursued a life of religious service that eventually led him abroad. He was also part of a family dedicated to faith, being the nephew of Zachariah Mudge, who was also a prominent Methodist figure.\n\nDuring the latter half of the nineteenth century and the early years of the twentieth century, Mudge served as a Methodist missionary in India. His extensive missionary career deeply informed his writing. Over his lifetime, he authored numerous books and texts centered on religion, theology, and Christian spirituality, contributing to the religious literature of his era.
