Sir John Linton Myres (1869–1954) was a prominent British archaeologist and academic whose career spanned the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He is particularly recognized for his archaeological excavations in Cyprus, which he conducted during this period, contributing significantly to the historical understanding of the region.\n\nMyres's academic career was closely tied to the University of Oxford, where he initially held fellowships at Magdalen College and Christ Church. After a brief tenure as the Gladstone Professor of Greek at the University of Liverpool from 1907 to 1910, he returned to Oxford. There, he was appointed as the first Wykeham Professor of Ancient History, a prestigious position he held from 1910 until 1939. In addition to his academic pursuits, Myres served with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in the Eastern Mediterranean during the First World War.
