Grace May North, who also wrote under her married name Grace May North Monfort, was an American newspaper journalist and author. Born on February 1, 1876, North developed a career that spanned both journalism and creative writing, focusing significantly on literature intended for younger audiences. Her work in newspapers provided a foundation for her professional writing career, which eventually transitioned into the creation of longer-form fiction for children and adolescents.

As an author of youth fiction, North was notable for writing stories that featured both girl and boy protagonists, ensuring her books appealed to a wide range of young readers. Throughout her career, she wrote primarily under her birth name, Grace May North. However, in her later years, some of her novels were republished under the pen-name Carol Norton.
